What’s Included in This Service

01 Zero Liquid Discharge

Zero liquid discharge is the process of ensuring that there is no discharge of wastewater/produced water into the environment but rather, the water is treated for reuse or safe disposal.

Types of zero liquid discharge for produced water management include the following:

  1. Mechanical Evaporation
  2. Re-injection

Mechanical Evaporation

Our Mechanical Evaporator (Atomizer), typically electrically driven and managed by a PLC, is capable of evaporating up to about 85% of what flows through the head, depending on the characteristics of the water, temperature, relative humidity of the area, wind speed and wind direction, as well as height above sea level.

Mechanical evaporation is an energy-intensive way of disposing of wastewater/produced water. The various energy alternatives are considered in the selection of the most efficient evaporator, depending on the characteristics of the water to be treated.

Re-injection

The water is treated to the required standard and re-injected into the formation for oil recovery or disposed of into the formation through disposal wells.

Chemical Injection Skids provide the exact amount of reagents and chemicals needed at specified temperatures, pressures, and flow rates within a process or system.

Chemicals are applied to help prevent process plants from corrosion, formation of scale and hydrates, and the breakdown of wax and foam.

Our complete chemical injection skid includes various components, including:

  • Metering/dosing pumps
  • Chemical storage tanks
  • Calibration columns
  • Instrumentation and tubing
  • Valves
  • Filtration modules

Our core business includes the design and manufacture of fully optimized Chemical Injection Skids that tie into the production process of a plant or facility. As an industry solution provider, our systems are developed and tested to support smooth operations across a range of liquid chemical-treatment applications.

Chemical Injection Systems

When considering options for water treatment equipment or open drain treatment, Rovicon Energy Solutions Ltd. provides skimming solutions for produced water treatment applications.

Skimmers are skidded units equipped with instruments, valving, and controls to simplify sourcing and treatment requirements. Whether the application involves high or low pressure, or a more complex or straightforward process, our solutions can be adapted to the specific needs of the operation.

Rovicon offers Low Pressure Skimmers for the bulk removal of oil. This tried-and-tested technology is available in both vertical and horizontal designs, with options for sand jetting, coalescing, and the addition of gas flotation for increased efficiency.

Skimmers

Flotation technology has been an industry cornerstone for the separation of oil from production water for decades.

Rovicon and its partners have over 30 years of experience in the treatment of produced water and can help clients evaluate different flotation technologies to identify the appropriate fit for their process conditions.

Four bubble-making technologies are available:

  • IGF Mechanical Agitators
  • Hydraulic
  • Sparge
  • Dissolve Gas Flotation

These technologies can be applied to either vertical or horizontal design packages.

The Hydrocyclone is one of the most popular and advanced technologies for the extraction of oil from produced water containing up to 2% oil by volume. This technology provides high separation efficiency while requiring a small footprint.

The Hydrocyclone operates under system pressure as its primary source of energy to create a high-velocity vortex. This causes fluids of differing densities to separate.

Both liquid/liquid Hydrocyclones and solid/liquid Hydrocyclones are available and can be designed to customer specifications.

Hydrocyclones

Static Plate Separators (SPS) provide economical and effective removal of oil and solids from produced water through gravity separation.

This proven technology has no moving parts and provides effective operating results for simple and consistent separation efficiency.

Using natural principles of buoyancy, the technology manipulates oil particle size to achieve a greater rate of rise of the oil particles. An added benefit is its ability to effectively remove solids.

Rovicon offers a complete line of tertiary treatment options ranging from adsorption filters, such as Walnut Shell Filters, to absorption filters, such as Cartridge and Multimedia Filters.

In an industry where stricter water discharge qualities are expected, the capacity to treat water to below 10 PPM is critical. We are uniquely positioned to meet tertiary treatment needs according to applicable discharge criteria.

Walnut Shell Filters

Nutshell filters are types of tertiary treatment designed to provide an adsorption duty for low concentrations of free oil present as fine droplets.

They are therefore ideal for use as polishing units installed downstream of a hydrocyclone or flotation package prior to disposal or re-injection.

Walnut Shell Filters & Multimedia Filters

We are able to offer clients the ability to attain concentration levels of zero PPM for disposal and re-injection purposes.

This is achieved through the use of Reverse Osmosis. The system comprises a membrane system capable of removing dissolved salts and chemical constituents contained in the water.

Reverse Osmosis can therefore serve as a treatment option where further purification of produced water is required to meet the intended disposal or re-injection requirements.

Reverse Osmosis

Rovicon Energy Solutions Ltd. brings together multiple produced water treatment technologies to address different stages and requirements of water treatment operations.

Our capabilities include:

  • Zero Liquid Discharge
  • Mechanical Evaporation
  • Re-Injection
  • Chemical Injection Systems
  • Skimmers
  • Flotation
  • Hydrocyclones
  • Static Plate Separators
